I am a radiology clerkship this month which has proven to be very interesting. During the past week, I have rotated through the reading room, interventional radiology, xray tech room, fluoroscopy, and ultrasound at Riley Children's. We also had several lectures on reading chest films, common diagnostic problems in the office, and deciding what radiologic test to order. I am glad to be gaining this knowledge for practicing medicine. Though I will not be a radiologist, knowing what tests to order and how to understand them is vital. It has been a good week with family and visiting with friends.
Here are some high's and low's from the week of 7/13:
LOW's (let's get these out of the way):
- So this seems to be a recurring one but managing to snooze through valuable minutes of shower and shave time nearly every day this week, leaving scraps of time to get ready for 6:45 AM calls in the reading room. Anyone driving on University Blvd or pulling into the Wishard staff garage had a site each morning this week as I ran-walked to Riley from the parking lot.
- Utilizing this year's birthday gift of some free ballroom dance lessons, I had a private and group lesson with one of my friends, Meghan. We learned some fox trot and swing. At the end of our private lesson, we were given an "assessment" that we could not pass or fail. Though we got high marks in rhythm and even animation, he said with a pause of hesitation, your balance and posture "will develop". So I stepped on Meg's feet a couple of times but I think collectively our balance is good. Ah well... He also mentioned that our variety was "limited". If he could only see our "Thriller" dance, he might think differently...
HIGH's (there were a lot this week!):
- Though we only had an "okay" gradecard, I really enjoyed taking some dance lessons. Last night at the group lesson, we gained some rumba, tango, salsa, and waltz. Together with the good music, fun company, and swanky wine spritzer, it was a great experience.
- Seeing one of my out-of-town friends, Leigh Anne, again after several months. We got to catch up, finally watch Out of Africa (something we had planned to do for many years that never worked out), and make a famed Starbucks run.
- Barcelona tapas downtown Indy...a must for the Indianapolis resident.
- Making eggs and biscuits with the Traders Point crew this morning at the Salvation Army. We always go the 3rd Saturday of the month to help Ms. Joyce make the goods for the women and children that live there. Join us on Saturday, August 16 if you are available.

So I'm a little disappointed that "Picture This" didn't make the list. However, I am unsure of whether it would go in the "high" or "low" category...
I am glad you enjoyed your dance time. What you had is called in the business, an "introductory special". At the end of the special you are "juniored" into a program, very much like golf, tennis or a fitness program at the gym. Considering Meg partnered you, I probably would not have connected her name with the "low" list. Duh!
The "low" was in regards to our instructor's underestimation of Meghan and my talent. Notice that the "high" is the dance experience with Meg and the Miller's! :)
I think my "hi's" of that week was the new friend we made at the turkish restaurant & the perfect night at Symphony on the Prairie
Jordan-- I have a question for you on my blog. Check and leave a comment when you can. Thanks!
Jen J.
Good save J! I still love you like a fat kid loves chocolate cake!!
Thanks so much for the info. I realized this afternoon I could have just called his doctor today, since it is Monday. But when I wrote it early this morning, I was delerious and forgot what day it was! Both kids are eating bland and drinking. Their breath smells awful like ketones. I'm sure they are both in ketosis not only from dehydration, but from weight loss as well. I lost 6 pounds in 24 hours, so I'm sure theirs was significant too. I think we are all on the right track though and can add some good protein tomorrow. Thanks again! :)
