Apple Fest

Tis the season of festivals. I really enjoy festivals...mostly for the food but also for the cool fall weather, the beauty of changing seasons, and time well-spent with family friends. I missed my favorite festival, Irish Fest, in Indy this year but am trying to make up for it by hitting a few in my area.

Today I went to my first Kentucky festival, Trimble County's annual "Apple Festival." My community group went to hear one of our friends play with her bluegrass band. They played a lot of great tunes, including many gospels and a couple from "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" We enjoyed some authentic KY barbecue, lemon shake-ups, and onion blossom. However, let's not overlook the crafts. Lauren, this festival actually was crafty...and trying to be. My favorite stop was the booth of the "Trimble Thimbles." One particularly outgoing "thimble," donning a quilted vest, approached the girls about signing up for quilting lessons...and about entering the raffle of course. Casey asked if she was raffling her vest. "Oh, no (looking around). (whispering) This is mine."

Even Baby Soren had a great time dancing to the tunes at the apple festival. Perhaps this will become an annual tradition.

Which festivals are you going to this fall?

Hi Jordan! Glad to see some blog posts from you again! Not like you're busy, right? ;) I love Louisville. Steve went to grad school there & I visited him a number of times. I think it's such a beautiful area! I hope you are surviving residency!

Glad you are finding some fests in Kentuckiana! Check out Harvest Homecoming in New Albany. One of my faves. http://www.harvesthomecoming.com/

We decided to go for quality over quantity this year and hit up the French Market on Saturday. Irish Fest is this weekend!
