Stride Right

Today I made some new strides in my workout experience. I changed my music. I am always a bit slow to make changes when it comes to the workout music arena. I was the guy you saw a couple of years ago still running with his CD walkman - hey, before you laugh consider the fact that it was a non-skipping model - yeah, not so smug now are you?

Well as I graduated from carrying a boombox while I ran, I began using a tiny MP3 player. This did the trick during my first 2 years of med school but soon broke. Plus, I was getting envious of The iPod. When I received an iPod for my birthday (last year - I know), I eagerly entered the world of iTunes and picking out music.

Over the past year, I have found that it is increasingly difficult to run to most Country and Christian music. Something about the soundboard and lyrical synthesizer do not pump me up to workout. So this afternoon I set out to find some good running music. I found some nice (and not so nice) R&B, dance-remixed classics, and even some Country/Christian tunes that have a good running beat. Here are some new tunes on my official running playlist:

1. "Eye of the Tiger" (Workout Remix) - Man, the original song was enough to lead Stallone to several championships and six blockbusters (well, maybe two or three). This even faster, remixed version is like the original on Rock Star. Seriously, I think I strained my biceps femori on this caffeinated tune tonight.

2. "Run It!" Chris Brown - Okay, I am not proud of this one but it makes me run faster.

3. "Life Light Up," Christy Nockels - Half to cleanse from the previous song, half because it is a great song. It came highly recommended from my friend, Steph, who after a week of song-binging on it finally convinced me to make the purchase. Who knew Christy was such a good running song writer?

4. "Hicktown," Jason Aldean - I love this guy. Thank you, Jason, for giving us a Country song we can run to.

5. "Run," Hillsong - A newbie, but goodie

6. "My Life Would Suck Without You," Kelly Clarkson - High energy fun-ness. I think my pace doubled on this song. Thanks, Kelly.

7. "Stronger," (Workout Remix) - Another one that I stumbled upon that provided some good, clean energy on the canal.

I know I am just scratching the surface of good workout songs. I welcome any suggestions. What songs are on your workout playlist?

I used to have a playlist called "Three Mile Walk," but I lost it when my computer crashed a couple years ago. I shall try to remember what was on it.

Yay for purchasing "Life Light Up!" And I love "My LIfe Would Suck Without You," too.

Think you could run to "Friend of God??"

Perhaps "Ready" by Third Day off their Revelation cd. Not only is it my favorite tune on the album, but mommy likes to run to it :)

I'm not sure if you're an Avalon fan, but my CD of choice in college was their Remix album. It's all their best songs and they're very catchy. :) Definitely kept my feet moving!

For some reason, I must have missed this when you first posted it. I just saw it this morning for the first time. hmph.
anyway, i am totally going to do a post about this! my workout playlist has like 18 songs now, and they are all pretty much in the worship category. i tried working out to secular music, because, frankly, some of it is just better than any Christian stuff out there right now. but working out is just so painful, and i found that i needed to be singing to God to even get through it. =)
